The proposal to create a new facility to continue the family's lineage as a horticultural and cultural institution builds upon the rich history and significance of the family in the rural Victoria community of Silvan/ Monbulk and the Dandenong Ranges. This project can contribute to the preservation of horticultural traditions and provide valuable resources for the surrounding community.

The new facility accommodates everyday activity (processing of bulbs and plants for wholesale and retail sales). The proposed greenhouse will upgrade an obsolete shed to provide modern business facilities into the future.

The design of the greenhouse goes beyond mere functionality and considers the broader use of the site. The greenhouse not only serves as a functional building but also serves as a backdrop to the existing heritage garden on the southwestern edge of the site.

The robust character of the facade is intended to reinforce the durability and vibrancy of the company brand, appealing to both local patrons and regional tourists. This long-term perspective and commitment to providing an exceptional visitor experience are essential for the sustained success of the family business and the overall tourism industry in the Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges. The building will act as a central point for various events that take place at the farm.

Given the horticultural nature of the structure and its purpose, the design creates a facade that not only hides the utilitarian form of the shed but also enhances the cultural character of the company and the future direction of their business. The design recognises the significance of the form and pattern of the facade in achieving these design intentions. The proposed facade draws inspiration from the Dutch history of the family and the historical building typologies that feature vibrant and playful colours. While the primary source of vibrancy comes from the tulip flowers, the facade is designed as a reference point, featuring multiple gable parapets. The traditional Dutch gable has been adapted and softened to fit within the context of a horticultural farm shed. The resulting structure celebrates the rich cultural heritage of the family while considering the farm's character and the horticultural context of Silvan.

The proposed greenhouse at the rear has been carefully designed to incorporate its use and the history of the site. The overall design can be described as a "dressed up greenhouse," which means it takes the form of a simple shed structure but features an elaborate facade as its key aspect.
The articulated facade of the greenhouse has been specifically created to pay homage to the site's agricultural use and history. It consists of multiple pitched forms that serve as connections between the proposed greenhouse and the existing buildings on the site. These forms not only add visual interest to the structure but also establish a strong link with the agricultural context.
Apart from the facade, the greenhouse's overall form and scale have been intentionally reduced and further articulated through variations in cladding. This means that different materials, textures, or patterns are used on the exterior surfaces of the greenhouse to enhance its visual appeal and create a sense of depth and detail.
